The Somaly Mam Foundation Cambodia is recruiting a full-time Co-Manager of Voices for Change and Education Program, based in Phnom Penh with availability travel to provinces as needed.
1. CO-MANAGER, VOICES FOR CHANGE & EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Co-Manager reports to Program Director and responsible for:
Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Development Director (Director) will spearhead development efforts as SMF continues to grow. The Director will have the opportunity to build the development function for SMF.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Executive Director in the development and execution of the Foundation’s annual fundraising and development plan
- Develop new and foster ongoing relationships with major donors through networking and direct contact; secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations (75% focused on foundation and corporations and 25% of individuals);
- Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising; Conduct research, prospecting, and applications for multiple donor sources;
- Continuously develop new target lists of corporations and private foundations to be contacted with a targeted ask. Focus on the target’s previous history of annual giving, both in amount and in what causes the targets have supported historically;
- Develop and maintain key long-term relationships with donors and prospects; creating and executing a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors;
- Work with event consultants and SMF team to ensure that the foundation’s annual gala is successful by managing table sponsorships, ticket sales and by appointing a gala committee that will contribute to the financial success of the event;
- Organize and facilitate small donor events with objective of cultivating relationships, which will lead to financial support for the foundation;
- Manage the implementation of SalesForce including the entry of existing donor records and funding history, and oversee staff responsible for data entry, contact records, and gift processing;
- Work directly with staff in all areas and activities that communicate the foundation's image, message, mission, priorities and accomplishments including publications, the website, program and fund raising events;
- Work directly with Director of Operations and Director of Communications to obtain regular updates from the organization’s service partners in Southeast Asia;
- Train and mentor development staff; communicate annual and targeted fundraising goals and progress toward goals regularly throughout the organization.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Education & Training
- BA required, MA a plus
- Minimum 5-plus years experience in development
- Excellent writing, editing, interpersonal, and oral communications skills.
- Experience working with women, girls, and sex trafficking community a plus
- Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
Experience
- Project Leadership: Experienced in planning, leading, and managing development projects,including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to senior managers/board of directors
- Influencing: Gets others to accept ideas by using convincing arguments, creates a win-win situation and responds appropriately to key stakeholders
- Relationship Building: Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization and externally
Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of Raiser's Edge, Salesforce or similar CRM software
- Entrepreneurial Spirit: Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships and to forge new ones
- Communications: Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising. Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials. Experience and credibility when presenting materials to external audiences
- Collaboration: Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience. Actual salary will be dependent on qualification and anticipated contribution to the foundation.

3. SENIOR DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS
Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Senior Director of Communications will develop and coordinate the implementation of a strategic communications plan that supports SMF’s constituency building, advocacy efforts, and fundraising initiatives. The Senior Director of Communications will be responsible for the positioning and management of the SMF brand through ongoing communications efforts, including local and national activities, press outreach, marketing materials, and high-profile events.
Working closely with the Foundation's ED, she/he will be responsible for supporting collaborative planning with partners and communications consultants to support the development and implementation of communications strategies. Positions reporting to the Senior Director of Communications include the Director of Partnerships & Business Development.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Planning
- Manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of a prioritized, budgeted communications plan that supports discreet audiences in collaboration with SMF growth objectives, increases the visibility of the brand, and aligns with the SMF Foundation’s general principles
- Understand the SMF team’s mission, strategy, goals, current operating plan, and event calendar: meet the day-to-day communications needs of the SMF objectives
Media
- Manage writing and pitching news announcements; scheduling staff media appearances; planning media and other events; supporting on on-line engagement; developing e-mail and newsletter content; coordinating with SMF staff and managing communications consultants
- Develop messages, materials, and other content for target audiences; facilitate ongoing media relations; track and measure over time the level of engagement within the network
- Prepare media briefings; facilitate social media conversations; and support special events and briefings
- Manage all media contacts
- Help the Foundation's Executive Director develop metrics to measure the impact of communications activities and share data on outputs with relevant partners and with the team
- Respond to local issues and mitigate negative press; act as direct company spokesperson as needed
- Train and provide advice to Foundation executives for media interviews, press conferences, and presentations
Online Engagement
- Oversee work of Director of Partners & Business Development, including all social media programs
- Work closely with the Director of Partnerships & Business Development to prioritize and manage projects, plan the website's features and enhancements, and produce updates to the current website Serve as liaison with IT consultants for structural changes and new feature rollouts
- Educate SMF audiences about SMF’s opportunities for grassroots engagement, and provide target audience with communications tools, including materials, guides, videos, and reusable content and stories
- Coordinate website maintenance and ensure that new, vetted information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly
Other Engagement
- Manage development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral, including but not limited to newsletters, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters, and press kits
- Coordinate and organize annual meetings that engage the network's discrete audiences
- Represent SMF as an active member of the anti-trafficking community
- Coordinate communications with media outlets, grantees, partners, influential thought leaders, and policy makers as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education & Training
- Bachelor's degree in communications, international affairs, public policy, or journalism, or equivalent experience required
- MA degree is preferred
- Minimum of 8 years experience in communications, public relations, and/or media outlets
Experience
- Excellent writing, editing, interpersonal, and oral communications skills
- Experience working with women, girls, and anti-trafficking community
- A keen sense of what makes and shapes the news, and the ability to make well-informed decisions in targeting appropriate media outlets and reporters
- Experience working with diverse cultures and willingness to travel
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, often rapidly changing environment
Knowledge
- In-depth knowledge and passion for global development, women and girls’ rights, contextual global development issues, and for educating citizens about solutions
- Experience in building a movement; innovative ideas and approaches to challenges
- A basic knowledge of new media including blogs, social networking, and online news outlets
- Attention to detail and adherence to deadlines
- Strong skills working in teams and across many types of organizations: collaborator, problem solver, relationship-builder, and strong inter-personal skills

Volunteer Coordinator Internship
SMF is currently seeking a Cause Marketing Intern to assist the Director of Marketing and Development. This position is unpaid and based in our New York office. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Basic design work: creating flyers, editing images, updating web content
• Research and develop innovative ways to promote SMF and raise awareness of human trafficking
• Writing and editorial tasks, including but not limited to drafting and sending press releases, newsletter and promotional material support, and blogging
• Online research, social media support
• Campaign development and messaging
• Event promotion and production
• Some administrative duties as needed
Qualifications:
• Passionate with a strong commitment to ending sex slavery and human trafficking

PROJECT FUTURES global, SMF’s grassroots activist program, empowers volunteers to take action and join the fight against slavery. Volunteers can use their skills and interests, their communities, and their social networks to speak out, increase awareness, and raise funds for the Somaly Mam Foundation.
