Profiles of Courage
Ron Livingston
In Ron’s words…
“The sexual trafficking and slavery of children is one of those evils that most of us are either too squeamish to acknowledge, too cowardly to challenge, or too comfortable to address. Somaly Mam is none of those things. She is one of the true bonafide heroines of our time, and is making a real difference in the lives of real children. I urge each of you to give freely and generously to this very worthy cause. Every contribution helps to make a difference.”
Ron Livingston was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Marion High School and attended Yale University, where he received B.A. degrees in Theater and English. His first film was in 1992, in Dolly Parton's "Straight Talk." Subsequent to that, he appeared in "Swingers" and also played the male lead in "Office Space," which co-starred Jennifer Aniston. He gave his first serious role in HBO's "Band of Brothers" as Captain Lewis Nixon. Going beyond nice-guy roles, Livingston played a Hollywood agent in "Adaptation" (2002); an Ivy League upstart to Alec Baldwin's casino boss in "The Cooler" (2003); and an unfortunate English teacher in "Pretty Persuasion"(2005). His other movie credits include "Holly," "The Time Travelers Wife" and "Relative Strangers." He also appeared as Jack Berger, Carrie's boyfriend, in the sixth season of "Sex and the City."
It was Livingston's work in the film "Holly" that first brought him into contact with the issue of human trafficking and sexual slavery. This film was shot entirely on location in Cambodia and Livingston became intimately aware of the depth and breadth of this problem.
