STOP Sex Trafficking Petition

Susan Sarandon signing petition
Supporters Raise Their Hands to Stop Prosecution of Children Forced into Prostitution.
Somaly Mam and SMF’s dedicated supporter and advisory board member, Susan Sarandon, teamed up with The Body Shop’s STOP Sex Trafficking Campaign and ECPAT USA at the end of the summer to launch a petition calling for every state to enact Safe Harbor laws, which protect children under 18 from being prosecuted for prostitution, treating them as victims of exploitation rather than criminals.
Currently, only three states –Washington, New York, and Connecticut – have Safe Harbor laws on the books. That means that in all the other forty-seven states children can be penalized for their own abuse and exploitation – even though they cannot legally
consent to sex.
Susan Sarandon, Somaly Mam, and representatives from ECPAT USA and The Body Shop were present for a press conference announcing the launch of this latest push in the STOP Sex Trafficking Campaign. Supporters including Robert Pattinson, Matt LeBlanc, Sienna Miller, Naomi Miller, and Kim Cattrall have all added their voices – and handprints - to the cause.
The STOP Sex Trafficking petition already has nearly 30,000 signatures – add yours and bring us closer to achieving the legal protections that child victims of sex trafficking so desperately need.
