Fourth Annual Anti-Trafficking Day

On December 12th, SMF Cambodia celebrated the fourth annual National Anti-Trafficking Day in Banteay Meanchey province, at the Kla Koun High school.
 
An audience of 1500 included students, VFC’s Activist Student Network, international and local Non-Governmental Organizations, community members and members of the provincial government, and local high school teachers.
 
Mr. Om Reatrey, Major of Serey Sophorn city, was a guest of honor and speaker at the event, along with Somaly Mam and Mr. Chheuy Channa, Chief of Provincial Department of Education. Sina Vann and a leader of Voices For Change’s Activist Student Network, Ms. Hun Heanlida, also spoke on the issue of human trafficking and the impetus behind the national anti-trafficking day event. In addition, a short drama was performed by members of student network along with 2 Voices For Change leaders, Sina Mann and Sotheara Yok, entitled “Whose Fault?” 
 
An extensive Q&A session closed the event, with open dialogue related to the event itself, the current level of awareness around human trafficking and modern slavery in Cambodia, and the circumstances that lead to situations of human trafficking and the complex environment that each woman or girl can face as a victim of this crime.
