Statement from SMF's Executive Director Gina Reiss-Wilchins on Story in Newsweek Magazine
May 21, 2014
Dear Supporters,
This morning, Newsweek Magazine issued a story on its web site containing allegations about Somaly Mam’s history and several former grant partner beneficiaries.
As we noted in our letter of April 4th, the Foundation is taking these matters with the utmost seriousness and has previously launched an independent, third party investigation to further examine these claims.
We hope to have more information to share with our supporters in due course. In the meantime, we will remain steadfast in our work and dedicated to the women and girls that we serve everyday.
In the coming weeks, we hope you’ll continue your unwavering support, and help us ensure that the world remains focused on the anti-trafficking movement and our efforts to create a world where all human beings are safe from slavery.
We can’t thank you enough for standing with us through this challenging time, and for supporting us in our mission to eradicate the trafficking and sexual exploitation of women and girls in Southeast Asia.
In solidarity,
Gina Reiss-Wilchins
Executive Director
Somaly Mam Foundation
