Position: Finance Director

Position Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Executive Director & CEO

 

About the Somaly Mam Foundation: The Somaly Mam Foundation (www.somaly.org) is a nonprofit organization committed to ending modern day slavery in North America and around the world. Human trafficking, a multi-billion dollar industry, is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world. With over two million women and children sold into sexual slavery each year, it is a global crisis that must be stopped. More resources are critically needed to support the rescue and rehabilitation of these young victims.

Co-founded by sexual slavery survivor, Somaly Mam, the foundation works to eradicate human trafficking, liberate its victims, and empower survivors so they can create and sustain lives of dignity. The foundation supports survivor rescue, shelter and rehabilitation programs globally with a special focus on Southeast Asia. The Somaly Mam Foundation also runs awareness and advocacy campaigns in North America and around the world that shed light on the crime of human trafficking and focus on getting the public and governments involved in the fight to abolish modern day slavery.

Job Purpose:

The Finance Director manages the global finance department staff and is the chief financial spokes person of the foundation. The Finance Director reports to the Executive Director & CEO and supports the foundation on all strategic and technical matters as they relate to budget management cost benefit analysis and forecasting needs. The Finance Director develops and maintains systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the foundation. She/he oversees the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all audit issues are resolved, compliance issues are met, and the preparation of the annual financial statements is in accordance with U.S. GAAP and federal, state and other required supplementary schedules and information.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Accounting function in US and Cambodia
  • Oversee the production of monthly reports as well as financial statements and cash flow projections for use by Executive management, the Audit/Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Prepare the Annual operating Budget and forecasts including cash flow forecasting Provide guidance on financial matters to Executive Director & CEO and other members of SMF as needed
  • Attend Board and Subcommittee meetings and present Financial Results and Budgets to Board of Directors
  • Manage Account Payable and Accounts Receivable and oversee all purchasing and payroll activity
  • Coordinate the Audit(s) of SMF International
  • Monitor banking activities of the organization
  • Secure and oversee business insurance and health care coverage plans.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the foundation’s business resumption plan

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work with a diverse set of staff members Ability to respond to challenges presented by a growing, international entity Possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the foundation including staff at remote locations essential. Strong problem solving and creative skills with an ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results- orientation.

Other Skills and Abilities:

PC proficiency is essential (MAC environment) and strong working knowledge Excel.

 

 

Education/Training:

BS in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university. MBA from an accredited university or equivalent work experience.

 

 

Experience:

15+ years of applicable work experience with several years of working with an international NGO International banking and/or e-commerce with multiple revenue streams Familiarity with US Tax Code as it relates to US non-profits Granting and monitoring background is a plus.

 

 

Certificates/Licenses:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred

Compensation: SMF offers a competitive compensation package including base salary, bonus participation, health, 403-(b) and vacation benefits.

 

 

Working Conditions:

Generally work at the SMF-NYC office with occasional travel to Cambodia required. Requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Requires extensive use of a computer and repetitive hand movements in the performance of duties. Occasional lifting and carrying of material weighing up to 20 pounds may be required. Operate telephone, personal computer, printer, fax machine and copier.
