Over two million women and children are sold into slavery each year. This unspeakable crime has grown exponentially and will continue to grow unless good people take on this challenge against evil and say “no more.”

The Somaly Mam Foundation has taken on this challenge. Founded in 2007 by trafficking survivor, Somaly Mam, the Foundation is dedicated to ending sex slavery around the world with a results-oriented, three-step approach: Action, Advocacy & Awareness.

The common thread woven through all of our programs is the collective voice of the survivors. We model our vision after Somaly’s inspiring life, ensuring that survivors take charge in reclaiming their lives, fighting back against their former oppressors, and refusing to turn their backs on those who remain behind.

Rescue & Recovery

Through our partners in Southeast Asia, The Somaly Mam Foundation supports programs that rescue victims and provide survivors with food, shelter, medical and psychological care. These programs have provided comprehensive services to thousands of sex trafficking victims across Southeast Asia since their inception.

Education

After these basic needs are met, SMF provides funding for education and vocational training programs to prepare survivors for reintegration into the mainstream.

Reintegration

After victims have been rescued and have gone through the recovery process, they are ready to make the transition back into mainstream society. SMF ensures these survivors have the means to start a new life. SMF also funds ongoing medical and psychological services as needed and continues to support and monitor survivors for a period of at least three years to ensure long-term success and holistic reintegration.

Voices for Change

Survivors of trafficking are not weak and helpless. They are strong, resilient, and have demonstrated incredible courage in overcoming their tortured past and building a promising future for themselves. The Somaly Mam Foundation is there to lend a hand and provide them with a platform from which their voices can be heard around the world.

Advocacy

The Somaly Mam Foundation believes the Rule of Law is crucial in the fight against trafficking, and the Foundation is dedicated to supporting and promoting the Rule of Law in regions where the concept is threatened or non-existent. With that in mind, SMF has established a powerful network of domestic and international partners.

Global Awareness

The Somaly Mam Foundation is dedicated to raising global awareness through the media, entertainment industry, celebrity voices, speaking engagements, internet communities, and by encouraging university and high school involvement.
